Bodybuilder arrested on drug charges

Indianapolis - Investigators arrested a local bodybuilder, saying he also built up a huge stash of illegal narcotics.

Joseph Mobareki, 33, worked as a personal trainer at the Fitness Facility in Greenwood, where they kept an eye on his activities.

"He left there speeding, so they made a traffic stop on him as he went to his residence," said IMPD Lt. Jeff Duhamell.

During the stop, officers noticed something in Mobareki's car. When he agreed to open it, they found what appeared to be steroids. That discovery lead to search warrants at his south side home, where investigators confiscated narcotic drugs. They say he also had marijuana on him along with guns and a large amount of cash.

Police arrested Mobareki on one count each of possession and dealing marijuana, six counts of possessing a controlled substance and seven counts of dealing those drugs.

It's not the first time Mobareki was in trouble with the law. In May 2004, he reportedly made a fist and started yelling at a uniformed officer working security at the Have A Nice Day Café downtown when the officer asked him to step aside as he escorted an unruly patron outside.  Police arrested Mobareki for disorderly conduct.

In 1994, he went to jail for engaging in a speed contest with other cars, but his alleged involvement with steroids that has Mobareki in the most trouble.

"Given the magnitude he had, it's a pretty good arrest," Lt. Duhamell said.

Investigators also confiscated guns, more steroids and drug paraphernalia from a storage unit. Their investigation is far from over, because they suspect Mobareki had a huge steroid client base. Police say they could also be in trouble.
