Indiana braces for heat wave

Indianapolis - In the wake of blistering temperatures, the state's health department has issued a heat advisory. Friday is the fourth day in a row of 90-degree temperatures, and the heat is going to stick with us.

The month of June only had five days of temperatures at or above 90. In July we saw just three. Now all signs point to this chapter ending with a sizzling sensation.

Fighting fire is bad enough, but with the added heat, "It's like when you open an oven, it doesn't leave," said Lt. Macy, Indianapolis Fire Department.

Hot temperatures and the state fair seem to go hand in hand. Unfortunately the hottest air of the season is forecast to arrive just in time. At the fairgrounds next week the Midway will be loaded with rides. Crews are trying to beat the heat as they assemble the rides.

Temperatures next week will climb into the mid nineties. "It's not something I'm looking forward to I'm looking forward to the last bolt going in. I'd say somebody's got to do it," said Hilton Nightscales, ride operator.

Are you ready for a heat wave?

Some cooling rain showers would be nice, but we press our luck when combining the hot air with the lack of rain. It's a double whammy!

A water advisory runs now runs though the tenth. "I think its important that if we have voluntary compliance with the even/odd then we wont have to ask customers to stop watering all together," said Angie Dye, Veolia Water.
