Volunteers helping in postal carrier search

Lynsay Clutter/Eyewitness News

Greenfield - Family and friends are joined in the search Friday for a missing mailman in Greenfield. John R. Jordan disappeared Wednesday when his mail truck was abandoned along his delivery route. Members of his church are now doing what they can to help find him.

Pastor Roger Campbell led a prayer as volunteers started their search for Jordan Friday. Prayers for the missing mail carrier are also the prayers for a beloved father, husband, and friend.

John R. Jordan disappeared during his route in Greenfield, and his family and fellow church members are determined to help find him.

"It's like, why, where did he go? What's going on? Nobody that really knew John could ever possibly identify the fact that he just ran off. He loved his job. He loved his family," said Campbell.

Volunteers passed out flyers with his description, and scoured the town.

"What we'll do is we'll spread out on the trail from one edge of the woods to another," one searcher said.

Groups spread out, and searched along creeks and in the woods. While friends and family continue their search, US postal inspectors and Greenfield police area combining their efforts, canvassing the area.

"Right now, we're taking all the leads and tips that we can get and we're sending out investigators to check every lead that we get," said Det. Matt Holland, Greenfield Police Department.

There were no major breakthroughs, but some witnesses tell police they may have seen Jordan the day he disappeared.

"Right now, I believe we have some unconfirmed reports that somebody might have," said Holland.

Police say many reports are unconfirmed at this time, including claims that Jordan carries a gun, or may be walking away from financial trouble.

"We're investigating them right now; all that's uncorroborated at this time," said Holland.

Friends and family members say it's all rumors and that Jordan would never just walk away.

"Whatever you've heard, whatever you've read, understand that John is a family man. He's a good man and wouldn't hurt a fly, and he's out there somewhere and we have to find him," said Campbell.

If you have any information, call Greenfield police or the US Postal inspectors at 317-328-2530. The mail that was secured inside Jordan's truck was scheduled to be delivered Friday.
