Fatal hit and run suspect found

Steve Jefferson/Eyewitness News

Indianapolis -  A member of the Indiana National Guard surrendered to Metro police this week. A determined detective linked her to a fatal hit and run back in February.

Homicide detectives say Natisha Miller almost got away in a fatal hit and run.

February 16th someone struck 23-year-old Charles Goodrich on his bicycle and kept going. A cross marks the hit and run location on North German Church Road. After waiting all night for him to come home, the next day his wife went to Methodist Hospital.

"They told me that he died from a lot of internal bleeding," said Constance Goodrich.

IMPD Sgt Fred Ilnicki said, "It was assigned to one of our detectives here. Detective John Guilfoy."

Police say after hitting Goodrich, Natisha Miller drove to her home on Hornickle Circle. She told a neighbor about possibly hitting a trash can. The neighbor drove Miller back to the location but spotted police lights and left.

Constance says, "My husband nor me could even leave an animal on the street."

Police say the hit and run impact knocked off a piece of Miller's car leading detective John Guilfoy straight to a suspect.

"One of the pieces of the car parts we actually found a sticker on the inside with the VIN on it," explained Sgt. Ilnicki.

Detectives don't know if alcohol played a role in the case, but they do say Miller spent several hours here at Taylors Pub before the hit and run, not far from home and where Goodrich died.

No one answered the door at Natisha Miller's home.  Her 1999 red Mercury Cougar is parked in the garage.

Miller serves in the Indiana National Guard.

"How can you wear our uniform and do something like that," said the victim's wife.

"If people are going to hurt people sooner or later we are will find out who did it," said Sgt Fred Ilnicki.

The arrest provides some relief for the victim's widow. Especially after months not knowing if anyone would ever be held accountable.

Miller bonded out of jail after surrendering earlier this week. Her charges include leaving an accident causing death. The judge set her court date for July 25 which would have been the third wedding day anniversary for Richard and Constance Goodrich.
