West Lafayette - A Purdue University football player is sidelined with an injury, a stab wound. Police are looking for three people, including two women, who may have tangled with the Ft. Wayne native outside a club early Friday morning.
At the Boilermakers practice Friday a player was missing after taking a very illegal hit.
"We have not located any weapon," says assistant West Lafayette Police Chief John Walker. "At this time we are not sure what was used."
20-year-old wide receiver Selwyn Lymon, stabbed in the chest about 2:15 in the morning outside Nick's Night Club on the levee.
"My friend from Michigan talked to his dad and he says a girl stabbed him," says a friend of the player watching Friday practice. Police are looking for an unidentified female, another man and woman.
At this time the motive is unclear.
"I was shocked. I could not believe it at all," said another of the player's friends. "I don't think Selwyn deserves it at all."
"I'm pretty sure there was no problem until after at the club," said another female friend of the victim. "That's usually just how stuff starts, over nothing basically."
"We obviously are a family," says player Greg Horton. "So you know he's down. Have to pray for him. Hope he gets better."
"I don't like getting a call after midnight. I know that's not good," said coach Joe Tiller who also said Lymon is not an important factor on the team right now. "Because of his behavior, because of the choices he makes, period. This is not the first time I have had questions about his motives."
The coach said Lymon faces disciplinary action.
"It's a school night," Tiller said of the 2:15 a.m. incident. "And we have practice the next day. Where are your heads?"
Lymon is hospitalized in fair condition. Police are looking for a black female in her late 20's. She is about 5'2", 170 pounds. If you have information, call the West Lafayette Police at (765) 775-5200.
