Indianapolis, July 28 - Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter made an announcement Thursday. "Today we come here to recognize that official, Thomas Fisher, as the state's first solicitor general."
As such Fisher will handle constitutional challenges as well as other cases of vital interest to state government.
Two petitions before the FCC will require his attention. Attorney General Carter pointed out the deadline for public feedback is Friday. So he's urging 1.6 million Hoosiers who have signed up for Do Not Call to weigh in on the web by logging on the savedonotcall.com website. So far 8,000 have.
"Click on the FCC and send them an email message of what you think of Indiana's law," says Carter.
One of the petitions is from banks outside of the state. The second is from 30 telemarketing interests outside the state who want the right to call back in.
The state's new solicitor general spearheaded the telephone privacy case in Evansville and the federal case pending before Judge Barker.
He explained why these cases before the FCC and federal court are so important. "People in their homes make a decision about being on the telephone privacy list. If they make that decision that is an indication they do not want to be called. What we are doing is vindicating that interest."
The FCC ruling is not expected until middle or late August.
You still have a chance to share your opinion with the FCC on a state website dedicated to saving Do Not Call.
