Council members want committee to investigate Bisard case

Updated:

Indianapolis - Democratic members of the Indianapolis City-County Council will ask Republican members to join them in passing a resolution to form an investigative committee into the Officer David Bisard case. That vote could happen at the September 20th full council meeting.

The committee would be made up of three Republicans and three Democrats who have subpoena powers to bring in officers to answer questions.

Councilors Doris Minton-McNeill, Joanne Sanders, Brian Mahern and William Oliver announced the investigative committee during a Tuesday news conference. The councillors say they have heard conflicting information on the police response to Bisard's August 6th crash, which resulted in the death of 30-year-old Eric Wells and two others critically injured.

The Democrats have not contacted their Republican counterparts yet about the committee. The council president would appoint a chairperson if the resolution passes.
