Indianapolis - A Delta Air Lines flight attendant is in jail, accused of bringing a gun to Indianapolis International Airport.
The weapon was found by the TSA during a security check in Concourse A, but it's still unclear why she packed the weapon in her suitcase. Amber Robillard, 39, was passing through to board an early morning flight for Atlanta when a TSA officer spotted the outline of a handgun on an x-ray machine. Airport police found a Glock 26 semi-automatic handgun in an inside compartment of her luggage.
"Loaded handgun, nothing in the chamber, though," said airport spokesman Corey Wilson.
Robillard missed her flight to Atlanta where she lives and was arrested by airport police. She faces a felony for carrying a weapon in a controlled area and a misdemeanor for not having a conceal-carry permit.
A spokesperson for Delta Airlines confirmed that one of their employees had been arrested at Indianapolis International Airport and that they were conducting an internal investigation. But they said they hadn't spoken to the flight attendant yet and wouldn't speak to her until she got back to Atlanta.
According to a police report, Robillard identified the weapon as her property. Why she brought it with her to the airport, however, remains unclear.
"I'm not able to speculate at this time as to why she had the weapon or what she intended to do with it. That investigation is still ongoing at this present moment," Wilson said.
Airport officials say the incident underscores that current safety measures at Indianapolis International Airport are effective and that weapons can't be brought on board airplanes, no matter who you are.
Robillard remains in police custody, but could be released on bond Friday night.
