Arrest made in IU sex assault

Posted: Updated:

Indianapolis - Police arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault that took place on Indiana University's Bloomington campus early Thursday morning. Police made the arrest at the Indianapolis International Airport Friday afternoon.

Indianapolis Airport Police detained Hai Yu, 19, an IU-Bloomington student, at the request of IU Police. Yu is being escorted back to Monroe County to be booked in the county jail.

Yu was arrested on a charge of criminal confinement, a class D felony.

Police say the female victim was found partially clothed and unconscious on the north side of Foster-Magee on Fee Lane at around 3:30 am Thursday. Some students discovered her near the north door of the dormitory. She had bruises and abrasions.

The woman was taken to Bloomington Hospital for treatment. Police believe alcohol was a factor.

At the hospital, the woman told police she believed she was sexually assaulted. She could not give officers any additional information.

Police say they are aggressively investigating the case to assure students of their on-campus safety.

Contact IU Police at 812.855.4111 and ask to speak to an investigator or Shift Commander if you have information about what happened.
