Indianapolis - Sources tell Eyewitness News a New York man is a leading candidate to be the city's new public safety director.

A source close to Frank Straub of White Plains, N.Y. tell Eyewitness News he is a strong contender for the position and another source named him as a frontrunner. Straub resigned as public safety commissioner in White Plains after learning city councilors scheduled a meeting to vote on firing him.

Other candidates for the position include IMPD Chief Michael Spears, Downtown District Commander Darryl Pierce and acting Public Safety Director Mark Renner. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is expected to announce a final decision this month.
