IU report calls for better traffic safety measures

Updated:

Bloomington - A report on traffic safety conditions at Indiana University says the school should install better pedestrian crosswalks and launch an education campaign to help prevent campus accidents.

The Bloomington Campus Traffic Safety Task Force was formed in September after 19-year-old student Peter Duong died when he was hit by a car while crossing Fee Lane.

The task force's report says crosswalks should clearly mark a safe zone where pedestrians can cross safely and have the right of way. The group wants two such crosswalks at Fee Lane with more sites possible later.

The report also calls for some changes in campus bus stops and a safety education program so walkers, bicyclists and drivers know the rules of the road.
