Proposed Indiana power plants draw opposition

Updated:

Scottsburg, Ind. - Citizens groups in southern Indiana are fanning out to protest two proposed wood-burning power plants.

Residents in Scottsburg and Milltown have distributed fliers, taken out newspaper ads and packed Crawford County commissioners meetings in efforts to drum up opposition to the plants being reviewed by Indiana environmental regulators.

Liberty Green Renewable has applied for state air-quality permits for two 28-megawatt generating stations that each would burn about 300,000 tons of wood chips a year.

Milltown residents say they're worried about pollution from industrial wastewater seeping into the Blue River and the area's cave system.

Liberty Green officials say they are working to address residents' concerns.
