Kokomo - A group of teenagers were ambushed after a late night party over the weekend and police are searching for suspects.

Six bullets struck the SUV with four teenagers inside early Sunday in Kokomo, one traveled through a headrest and out the front windshield. The shots reportedly came from a black Jeep Cherokee that was following the group.

None of the teens, including a male and three girls aged 17, 18 and 19, were injured.

"Somebody just shot through our car. We were coming from a party and they just shot through our car. We were on the highway," one of the teens told 911.

According to police, the incident began at a Kokomo hotel during a high school prom after-party. Around 200 teenagers were at the hotel when fights broke out.

Hotel employees called police, who arrived and broke up the party. At least one, maybe two, SUVs began following the teenagers as they drove home, firing shots along US 31. The 17-year-old female driver told all the passengers to duck.

"We have some basic descriptions of who these kids are. We believe they were attendees of this party and were of the same age group, young teens," said Kokomo Police Lt. Don Whitehead.

The mother of the teenage owner of the bullet-riddled SUV told Eyewitness News her daughter is frightened and that the family hopes that police soon make arrests in the case.

Police are also looking for the driver of a gold Jeep Cherokee that may have been involved. The motive for the shooting is unknown.
