CIB employees, parks feel economic pinch

Updated:

Indianapolis - Employees of Lucas Oil Stadium and the convention center asked to take two more furlough days before year's end. That brings the total to eight.

The Capital Improvement Board, which runs those venues, says while its financial situation is improving, it still needs to cut costs.

Last month, the CIB eliminated 11 jobs and cut salaries by 5 to 15 percent.

Meantime, big changes at Ellenberger Park on the city's east side. No ice-skating at the indoor rink this winter.

Indy Parks made that decision last spring to save money and now says it won't offer indoor soccer or roller derby either. It's closing the arena until spring because it lacks heat. Staff will relocate to other facilities. Skaters can still go to Perry Park.
