Indianapolis - Robbers surprised a far west side couple at their home Thursday morning and stole their life savings.
The couple just returned from breakfast when the attack happened. The wife answered the knock at the door and the two men started threatening them right away.
"Kicked me in the back and said don't move. I'll kill you," said Billy, home invasion victim.
Billy, 74, and his 70-year-old wife Nancy survived a home invasion where two robbers threatened their lives. The men knocked on the door of their Salt Lake Drive home 8:30 Thursday morning and forced their way inside.
"They popped her. I was coming around the corner and they hit me. Then they kicked me and put me down on the ground," said Billy.
Billy says the two men asked for their money and his guns before ransacking the home. One of them tried to tie up the 74-year-old and made yet another threat.
"He hit me in the head again, this one did and said I mean it, don't try to turn over," said Billy.
"There are three safes, two with papers and one with a large amount of cash, and they took the safe that was locked. That's a small gray safe," said Det. James Hornaday, Indianapolis Metro Police.
Despite the threats on their lives, Billy kept an eye on their two attackers. He says they walked next door to an apartment complex.
"They walked right there up that hill there just like nothing has ever happened," he said.
The robbery surprises Dorothy Sherrill, whose son lives in the apartments.
"My son has lived over here for about a year now and he has not had any problems or anything," she said.
Billy and his wife not only had their life savings stolen, but also their sense of security.
