Fire forces evacuation of county jail

Updated:
Knox - Authorities say a fire was deliberately started inside the jail in northern Indiana's Starke County, forcing the evacuation of all prisoners from the building.

One jail official was treated at the scene Sunday night for smoke inhalation, and Sheriff Oscar Cowen says about 80 prisoners were moved to jails in neighboring counties.

Knox Township Fire Department Chief Ken Pfost says the fire started about 8 p.m. in a pile of mattresses and other debris. He says the building's most significant damage was from smoke.
