Shelbyville soldier injured in helicopter crash

Updated:
Balad, Iraq - An Indiana National Guard soldier from Shelbyville was injured in a helicopter accident in Iraq.

The Blackhawk crashed Saturday at Balad Air Base north of Baghdad. The military says Sgt. Mike Strange is the crew chief on the assault helicopter.

"Mike was injured in the accident. We've been able to establish that his condition is good at the moment. He is doing much better and is up and around after the incident," said Lt. Col. Tim Winslow, Indiana National Guard.

The military says Sgt. Strange has spoken with his wife and children. He's in the midst of his second tour of duty in Iraq.
