Tiger that drew attention for escape in Indiana dies

Updated:
Albion, Ind. - A Bengal tiger that drew attention last year after it escaped from an animal sanctuary in northeast Indiana has died.

The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne reports the female Tiger named India was found to have advanced cancer during surgery on Thursday. Black Pine Animal Park in Albion says the tiger was euthanized that day.

Park officials and volunteers became concerned about two weeks ago when the tiger began shunning food.

The tiger had escaped the afternoon of Dec. 9, prompting a multi-agency search. She returned that night.
