Muncie - Ozzy Osbourne has promised to buy a new K-9 officer to fight crime in Muncie.
The rock star known as the "Prince of Darkness" is shedding his bad guy image.
"He's one of my heroes. I knew he'd do something cool like that," said Anthony Miller, Muncie.
Ozzy Osbourne is digging into his own pockets to give Muncie, Indiana, a $10,000 donation. Vohne Liche Kennels, which trains police and military dogs in Denver, Indiana, says Ozzy plans to purchase a new K9 for the police department.
They say he's buying a three-year-old German shepherd at the request of his son, Jack Osbourne.
On the TV reality show "Armed and Famous", Jack trained with other celebrities to become a reserve officer for Muncie PD.
"Jack's been out with us while we've been training dogs. We've actually let him handle some of our dogs," said Vohne Liche Kennels' supervisor Dan Parker.
Police canines are highly trained and highly expensive. So when one of the Muncie officers' dogs was ready to retire, the kennel says the officer knew just who to call.
"He ran it by Jack Osbourne about trying to raise money to get a new dog so that it wouldn't cost the police department anything. I guess Jack went to his father, Ozzy, and within ten minutes he called back and said, 'You've got the money'," Parker said.
Muncie Police say they can't comment on the gift until they get actual cash in hand, but folks around town say they are impressed with the Osbournes' generosity.
"That's wonderful that they can give back to, have a good impact on our city," said Becky Kaehr, Muncie.
"I think it's pretty great they're still involved in the community. The celebrities made a lot of promises when they were here that they'd stay involved, so that was pretty cool," Miller added.
Already, Muncie police reportedly have a new name for the new K-9, in honor of Ozzy himself.
