Updated:

Lawrence - A gas main ruptured in Lawrence Friday morning, forcing the evacuation of several nearby business.

Someone digging caused the rupture near the intersection of Franklin Road and Pendleton Pike around 8 a.m. Friday. That intersection is closed and there is a strong odor of gas in the area.

The gas main is apparently a three or four inch high pressure supply line.

Later in the morning, Vectren crews responded to a gas leak in Plainfield.

A car crashed into the side of a building and three gas meters at 108 E. Main St. around 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Three nearby apartments and a barber shop have been evacuated.

Main St. is closed between Center St. and East St.

Both leaks appeared to be under control by 10:30 Friday morning.
