Registered sex offender arrested

Posted: Updated:

Indianapolis - Registered sex offender Danny Ray Martin is in custody after returning to his home where a sheriff's deputy was watching his residence.

Investigators confiscated Martin's home computer and cell phone. Martin, 30, faces four felony charges after five girls ages 10 to 15 say he followed them in a south side store and then while walking home.

Martin has a 1997 child molestation conviction in Marion County. Martin not only failed to properly register but also violated laws by using Myspace and a second Texas-based website set up for dating.

The Indiana Attorney General received complaints from the Texas-based website owners about Martin. He is currently at the Arrestee Processing Center in Marion County.

Martin is charged with four counts of D Felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Martin had last registered on March 12, 2009 and failed to provide any information concerning email addresses, user names or internet usage, according to the Marion County prosecutor's office.

Correction: In our on-air version of this story, we made a mistake by inadvertently showing the wrong house. We referred to it as the house where the arrested man lived, on Southeastern Avenue. It was instead the house of a neighbor. We have put a procedure into place to prevent this from happening again and we regret the error.
